The challenge
Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council were facing increasing pressure from traders to both guide visitors around the large and slightly confusing Ashton Market Hall, plus those same traders wanted a way to advertise to the visitors and make them aware of special offers and promotions they had on. They also wanted the ability to provide news and entertainment to create an atmosphere at certain times.
The solution
The Council approached Torpedo Factory Group to create an easily-controllable video wall and signage system. After a discussion of their requirements, Torpedo Factory Group developed and installed 3.1m x 1.75m video wall in a prominent area of the Ashton Market Halls. The video wall consisting of 9 x Samsung 46″ D Series Commercial LED Displays and the audio is provided by 2 x FBT CLA 604 column speakers provide to deliver high-quality sound to the viewing area in the market hall below. The video wall screens are fed from a secure source rack and controlled via Kramer audio visual switch gear.
The video wall and signage solution can display Live HD TV and digital signage. As the requirement was for easy operation, a remote user interface was installed for system operation. Content upload, scheduling, and source selection can be done by users anywhere which means the Ashton Market Hall management team don’t have to be on site to update or change the system.
The benefits
The traders and visitors are happy with the signage, adverts and entertainment at Ashton Market Hall. Footfall has increased, especially to the traders who are further inside the Hall. The management team at Ashton Market Hall management team can access the system real-time from anywhere which gives them flexibility in where they work. The Council has happier traders and shoppers, and footfall and spend is healthy.
